    Brick Patio Weed Control

In researching this article, I came across a case where a homeowner was so outraged by the weeds in her yard that she set them on fire with a blowtorch.

Fortunately, several items provide better service as a weeding tool, and there are several better alternatives for weed control in brick patios.

Of course, the best method of controlling weeds in a brick patio is the proper installation of your brick patio.

Start with a bottom layer of gravel, covered with a layer of sturdy garden fabric and cover it with a layer of sand.

This will give your brick patio a firm foundation and will affect the style of weeds in the area.

However, if your brick patio is already set up and full of weeds, here are some tips to help you succeed in keeping it weed-free without a lot of agonizing work.

First, for your brick patio weed control plan to be a success, implement your plan before the weeds bloom. This prevents weeds from turning to seeds and helps a short-term plan last longer.

For the following tip and other tips that involve spraying weeds of one kind or another, use a piece of cardboard or piece of Plexiglass to protect nearby plants.

    Boiling water

Boiling water is a very inexpensive, natural weed squeezer and works to kill most annual weeds. It also kills or weakens many types of perennial weeds.

A kettle is your weeding tool. While you wait (because a guarded pot never boils, you know!), Get out there and cut the culprits to the crown.

When the water begins to boil, grab the kettle (using a potholder) and pour the water over the weed cups, holding the kettle high enough just to avoid splashing. Killing weeds with boiling water will also burn biological organisms that are splashed in, but more will return as soon as the soil cools.

The vinegar will kill most of the weeds. However, vinegar from the grocery store is usually a 5% solution and is too weak to do the job. Ten percent vinegar will kill most weeds and is usually found where canning and pickling supplies are sold.

A 20% vinegar solution kills stubborn weeds, but it is often more than double that of 10%. Try to control weeds with 10% before investing in a stronger solution

Spray the vinegar directly on the weeds, using the protector mentioned above and taking care not to inhale the vapors. You can also wear gloves and eye protection as a safety measure.

In my experience, these measures will keep all brick patios weed-free without a lot of backbreaking work.
